• Brian Kersten Wisconsin

Brian Kersten was born into a life surrounded by nature and animals on a quaint farm in Appleton, Wisconsin. This rural upbringing instilled in him a deep love and respect for animals, shaping his future career path. Driven by this passion, he pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, where he excelled academically. 1977 he graduated with high distinction, earning a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. His academic journey did not stop there; he continued to expand his knowledge and expertise, culminating in obtaining his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1983.

His professional veterinary career began in a mixed animal practice in Burlington, Wisconsin, where he gained invaluable experience working with various animals. His career significantly turned in 1985 when he volunteered for a 2.5-year stint in Haiti. There, he worked on various relief and development projects, providing medical care to animals and helping improve the lives of the local people. This experience enriched his perspective on global health issues and reinforced his dedication to humanitarian efforts.

Upon his return to the United States in 1987, he took a decisive step in his career by purchasing a veterinary practice in Baldwin, Wisconsin. He successfully managed this practice for over a decade, during which he also served as President of the Pierce St. Croix Humane Society from 2001 to 2003. Under his leadership, the practice flourished, becoming a cornerstone of the community and enhancing the local animal welfare landscape.

In 2016, after nearly three decades at the helm of his practice, he sold his business, but his passion for veterinary medicine remained undiminished. In 2021, recognizing a growing need for affordable veterinary care, he founded Mercy Veterinary Service in Baldwin. The clinic was established to provide accessible, low-cost veterinary services specializing in small animal medicine, surgery, and dentistry. His commitment to providing care regardless of a pet owner's financial status has made the clinic a vital resource in the community.
